Jummal is a historical calculation system that has been used in dating for centuries. The system designates a certain numerical value for each alphabetical letter. The vlue of each letter is shown in the table below. Poetry dating relies mainly on Jummal. Dating poems end with dating verses. A dating verse is one that includes the word "Tarikh" (history) or any derivatives of its root (historian, historicise...etc.) If you calculate the jummal value of the dating verse (excluding the word history or its derivative) you get a numerical value which is usually a date.
